FOCUS ON AFRICA
Bintel has identified Africa as a major strategic market. Africa is the first continent in the world where cellular telephony outnumbers the fixed-line network; as cellular telephony is a cost-efficient means of communication compared to fixed-line telephony, this trend is expected to witness rapid growth in the next few years. This growth is driven by the economic surge which has fuelled demand for telecom infrastructure, as well as by the low level of penetration.
Though Africa is a voice-centric market, it nonetheless has a high niche demand for 3G services given the absence of fixed data access. 3G services are picking up in Africa and are expected to create more opportunities for mobile operators. 3G services are estimated to witness substantial growth.
